The late great Israel Kamakawio'ole
IZ, as he is commonly known, was as famous for promoting Hawaiian rights and independence, as well as his beautiful voice and ukulele playing. Having suffered from obesity and associated health problems most of his life, he died in 1997 at the age of 38. He gained international renown in 1999 with the release of his recording of Over the Rainbow/What a Wonderful World.
Jake Shimabukuro
We have Jake's mother to thank for his virtuoso performances, because, as a player herself, she gave her four-year old son a ukulele and he played it for hours every day.
